Ashtanga Yoga beyond the yogamat

 
Workshop 24-26 september with Alexander Medin
- Alla nivåer välkomna/All levels welcome -

This workshop will look into the principle definitions of yoga in the classical texts and investigate the practical applications of these in our daily practice.
The workshop will explore elements such as:
 
·     How do we develop a practical understanding of the classical texts?
·     What is the element of yoga in the physical practice that we do?
·     What does it mean to ‘improve in yoga and what is the proof of our practice?
·     How to approach Pranayama and how to find a practice that suits me?
·     Why is it necessary to ‘practice’ yoga in order to understand it?

The key texts to be briefly explored during the workshop are the Yoga Sutras, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Bhagavad Gita, Gheranda Samhita, Shiva Samhita, Yoga Yajnavalkya and the Yoga Upanishads.


Friday 06.30-08.00
A Led Primary Series Class
exploring the key principles of yoga according to the teachings of Pattabhi Jois. A class focusing on the delicate work of breath and bandhas.
Friday 08.30-09.30
The subtle art of Pranayama:
How to lengthen the breath, slow down the pulse and create a calm peaceful mind.

Friday 17.30 – 19.30
The Yoga Sutras in a nutshell:
How to cultivate a greater receptivity of yoga from creating a greater stability of mind.
The Hatha Yoga tradition: Why a practice of Āsana and Prānāyāma are instrumental in shaping our greater receptivity and understanding of yoga.


Saturday 08.00 – 10.00 Mysore Style: How to find your own unique rhythm to the practice.

Saturday 10.30 – 13.00 The subtle art of Pranayama: What does the principle texts say on Pranayama and what is the gradual approach we need to develop to find a practice that supports rather than harm and deplete us.
 
The eight limbs of Yoga:
How they affect our daily lives on all levels and how a better receptivity of them will create greater steadiness and wellbeing in our lives.
 

Sunday 07.00 – 10.00 Mysore Style: Confidence versus Humility. How to find a balanced approach to a daily practice of yoga? How to become a better listener to the many intricate ways of the body and mind and find a steadiness that is unshakable in the midst of opposition.

Sunday 12.00-14.00 The subtle art of Pranayama: How can I apply a Pranayama practice that works for me?
 
The importance of Sadhana (personal refinement): How the principal texts define and articulate the slow process that is involved in refining the mind, body and senses and become more receptive to the underlying state of yoga situated within us all.
