Hatha Yoga Teacher Training & workshop

 

Anthony&Rebecca Teacher Training 30/3-5/4, 2012

Our training is designed for serious students interested in becoming teachers, current teachers wishing to refine their craft or students wanting to expand their practice and understanding of all aspects of the practice of yoga.  This training will immensely deepen your understanding and practice of yoga, empower you to live to your highest potential and lead you to share this profound practice with others.

This course will cover the core teachings of Hatha Yoga including;  alignment,  yoga philosophy, theory and history. It also includes anatomy and biomechanics, asana (postures), pranayama (breath), meditation, and the Art of Teaching (class composition and sequencing, use of voice, observation and hands-on adjustments, themes and demonstrations, and yoga therapeutics).


Weekend Workshop- Arm Balances and Backbends 31/3-1/4, 2012
Do you think arm-balances are only for the super advanced? With strength of body and a playful spirit we will learn and practice techniques for a full experience in arm balances like never before.  This class will be taught as a full spectrum class including sequences to prepare the shoulders and hips for the many possible variations of arm balances. Soar to new heights in your practice as we explore the sweet space of balance between strength and softness.

It’s been said that the key to a long and healthy life is a flexible spine.  In this workshop, we will use principles of alignment to increase our understanding of and proficiency at bending the back through many of the intermediate and advanced backbends. No other set of poses challenge us as much and have more potential to open our hearts than these.  This workshop is open to all yogis with the ability to lift their head off the floor in Urdhva Dhanurasana and a desire to open and expand their practice.

Inversions and Hip Openers 31/3-1/4, 2012
If you are new to yoga or even have a regular practice, the idea of going upside down can be quite intimidating. All kinds of fears and misunderstandings arise. However, inversions are an integral part of your growth as a yogi, at every level. In this workshop we will explore headstand, shoulderstand, handstand and their variations. These poses have deep healing properties and strengthen the mind/body connection. Facing our fears on our mats offer us the gift of empowerment and clarity. We will mix discussion and practice together to deepen our understanding and ability to do these beautiful and important postures.

Hip openers can be some of the most difficult and painful poses for newer and seasoned practitioners alike. This workshop will focus on the pelvis, steady and heavy. We will explore the Muladara (root) chakra and learn some new variations of familiar poses. Prepare to get grounded.

Anthony Benenati
Anthony Benenati is the founder of City Yoga, recognized across the country as a yoga community on the cutting edge. Anthony is a senior instructor and is known in the yoga community as a skillful practitioner and a teacher's teacher for his dynamic, non-dogmatic and articulate teaching style.

His introduction to yoga began after years of competitive weightlifting and a disabling shoulder injury in 1989. In addition to studying with Anusara Founder John Friend for many years, Anthony studies with Professor Carlos Pomeda, one of the leading scholars of the traditions of the Hindu Tantra. Anthony has also studied in the Kundalini, Iyengar and Astanga-based yoga traditions.

Rebecca Benenati
Rebecca Benenati has been in the business of Health and Fitness since 1992. Before joining with her husband Anthony as co-owner of City Yoga, Rebecca had already made a name for herself with her own personal training and massage business. She began teaching yoga in 1993 after being reminded of how fun it was to move and stretch like she did as a young gymnast. Her yoga practice has not only become a way of life, it has become the one single thing that keeps her grounded, sane, happy, challenged and strong.

As a stepmother and a mother of two, Rebecca knows the challenges of everyday life so her classes are tough, though not just physically. She is deeply inspired to make space in her classes for her students to feel what is going on in their lives. This, she believes is the only way to fully embody the lessons right in front of them on their mat.

In addition to her extensive training and experience in yoga, personal training, massage, aromatherapy and meditation, Rebecca is also a certified doula. This was a natural progression in the work she has already been doing for so many years and is looking forward to supporting and nurturing more women as they make the most wondrous transition into motherhood.
